The Scottish information commissioner has backed a Tayside Police decision to refuse a freedom of information request.
The force was asked by a woman if someone was still employed as a police officer as she wanted to pursue a civil case against the person.
However, the force refused to say on the grounds this was personal information and it would be unlawful to release it.
It also argued she did not need this information to further her case.
The commissioner said: “When it was appealed, we agreed that while she had a legitimate interest in the information, this interest could be pursued just as effectively without it.”
