Friendly tennis sessions proving to be just ace in Perth
ByPaul Reoch
Tennis players in Perth have embarked on a new initiative by arranging non-competitive matches.
Darnhall, Kinnoull, Glenfarg and Scone tennis clubs are taking part in the sessions, which are held on the last Sunday of the month and rotated around the four clubs.
Organised by Douglas Gibson of Darnhall Tennis Club, the aim is to get people at different clubs playing against each other.
“This is outwith the regime and stress of team playing, which many ordinary members find off-putting and indeed can put people off joining clubs in the first place,” he said.
“There can be a perception that tennis club members all play like part-time Rafael Nadals or Andy Murrays and we all must wear whites when on court. Nothing could be further from the truth and age groups are very mixed.”
