HISTORY WAS made in Perth yesterday, as the new Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Board met for the first time.
The existing eight regional services will be amalgamated from April 1 and members promised exciting times ahead for the new service.
With the service’s interim headquarters at Perth Community Fire Station, the city’s council chambers was chosen for the inaugural gathering.
Chairman Pat Watters opened the meeting, pointing out the first board has a “tremendous opportunity” to shape the service.
Chief Fire Officer Alasdair Hay, from Dundee, said: “We have 9,500 staff wondering where they will be with the new service but my understanding is they are committed to continuing to deliver high-quality services and improve them.”
