A motorist who was feared missing after his car was found abandoned with its engine running near a Perthshire river has been traced by police.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, left his silver Renault Megane parked at Kinkell Bridge, near Auchterarder, on Tuesday evening.
Residents told police that the vehicle was sat at the north-end of the crossing for about three hours, with its key in its ignition.
Officers carried out door-to-door enquiries at the riverside beauty spot. A full-scale search was due to take place.
However, a force spokeswoman confirmed that the operation had been called off after driver was found safe and well. She said it was not believed that any crime had been committed.
“Our main concern was for the driver’s safety,” she said.
