Watchdog group battles Luncarty war memorial relocation bid
ByThe Courier Reporter
A row has erupted over plans to relocate a Perthshire village war memorial.
Construction firm Hutchison Property Consultants wants to move the Luncarty monument, which stands outside the Main Road social club, to a new site at Langlands Park.
In documents lodged with Perth and Kinross Council, designers say a railing could help to protect the stone memorial from vandalism.
The company has also tabled separate plans to demolish the social club and build four semi-detached houses in its place.
Now, Luncarty, Redgorton and Moneydie Community Council has lodged a formal objection against the relocation proposal.
In its letter to planners, the watchdog group hit out an alleged lack of consultation.
Members claim, if approved, the memorial would be close to a football pitch at Langlands.
A spokesman said: “If the memorial has to be moved, then all possible locations should be considered.”
Planning officers are considering the application and a decision is likely to be made by councillors this year.
