Mums dig deep to pay school lollipop man’s parking fine

Big-hearted mums in Scone had a whip round to pay their lollipop man’s parking fine.
Popular Fred Farmer, who is in his seventies, was slapped with a £60 ticket after he gave up his parking space to a visiting teacher at Robert Douglas Memorial Primary.
The crossing patroller from Perth has been shepherding children across the busy road outside RDM for 19 years.
When he moved his hatchback along the kerb and on to double yellow lines, the parking attendants pounced.
The next day the story of Fred’s costly mishap went round the school after RDM parent Sarah Lennie put out an appeal on the school’s lost property Facebook page.
She said: “We all thought it was rotten Fred getting fined.
“When I asked if parents would be prepared to give £1 each, so we could pay his fine, everybody just did it.
“I’ve never had such an easy time getting people to contribute money to something.”
