The artist described as Scotland’s most engaging and haunting singer-songwriter is to play Perth’s Southern Fried Americana Festival.
Dean Owens was given the title by celebrity fan Irvine Welsh and his admirers also include Ricky Ross, Bob Harris and Russell Brand.
His new album, Into the Sea, was recorded in Nashville and was playlisted on Radio Scotland, where it was named album of the week on the Iain Anderson Show.
Dean was also recently invited to “Whispering” Bob Harris’s house in Oxford to record a session for the renowned Under the Apple Tree Sessions for WBTV, which will be available online from mid-June.
Armed with a searingly soulful voice, skilfully crafted stories and memorable heart-twisting melodies, Dean filters his love of Americana through a gritty yet lyrical Scottish sensibility.
Dean’s music draws as much from his Scottish roots, especially his home town of Leith, as from his US heroes and he has drawn favourable comparisons with the likes of Bruce Springsteen.
In his early career Dean was the front man of Scottish Americana band the Felsons and he has played shows and toured with the Mavericks, Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris.
Dean and the Whisky Hearts Band will play the Salutation Hotel in Perth, as part of the Southern Fried Festival, on Saturday August 1 at 2pm.
