Youngsters have been warned not to risk tragedy by entering waterways in the hot summer weather.
Youths have been seen trying to cross the causeway from Moncreiffe Island on to the embankment beside Rodney Gardens in Perth a location that has seen several accidents take place over the years.
Temporary Chief Inspector Ian Scott, commander of Perth and Kinross, said the region’s water will still be icy cold and deceptively dangerous.
He said: “As the young and brave among us consider looking out the swimming costume and look to find somewhere nice to cool off, it is perhaps a timely reminder to provide some water safety advice.
“Regardless of the air temperature, our rivers and lochs remain very cold. Snow melt is still feeding some of our water systems.
“Tragically every year we have serious incidents in Perth and Kinross related to water safety.”
Rab Middlemiss, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) area group manager, said: “SFRS has attended numerous serious incidents in recent years in and around our rivers in Perth and Kinross, some of which have ended with the tragic loss of lives.
“We normally enjoy better weather at this time of year and the water can often seem appealing, particularly to young people who like to swim, jump in or take what looks like a short cut across a river.
“This is very dangerous as the currents are deceptively strong.
“Even the level of current in ankle-deep water can be enough to knock someone off their feet and a person can be swept away. Therefore I urge people to be aware of these dangers.”
