Hunt for owners of lovesick tortoise found wandering the streets of Blairgowrie

The owners of a lovesick tortoise, found roaming the streets of Blairgowrie, are being hunted by animal welfare officers.
The pet, named Desmond by vets, is thought to have wandered off from his home in search of a mate. He was spotted by a resident in the town’s George Street who called the Scottish SPCA.
The Hermann’s tortoise, is now in the case of the charity’s Hamilton centre. Manager Peter Fleming said: “This is the time of year when tortoises are breeding and it’s likely Desmond has gone in search of a mate.
“Perhaps his owner let him out into the garden to enjoy the weather and he has managed to escape.”
He added: “It’s not unusual for tortoises to dig under their outdoor runs or squeeze through a small gap in a fence.
“We’re hoping we can reunite Desmond with his owner, but if no one comes forward we’ll find him a loving new home.”
Anyone who recognises Desmond is urged to call the centre on 03000 999 999.
