Taxi driver slammed after cutting in front of ambulance as it rushed patient to hospital
ByKirsty McIntosh
A driver who “cut up” a speeding ambulance as it rushed a patient from Perth’s maternity unit to Ninewells has been slammed.
As the ambulance sped down the A90 at 90mph with blue lights flashing, taxi driver Mateusz Chojnacki undertook it and then cut in front.
As the vehicles hit heavy traffic at the Swallow roundabout, Chojnacki refused to get out of the way and then used the gap created in queuing traffic to squeeze down the road.
He was convicted at Perth Sheriff Court of dangerous driving and causing the ambulance to take evasive action.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “Any motorist who deliberately obstructs an ambulance is not just putting the well-being of the patient in jeopardy, but also potentially risking the lives of the crew and other road users.”
