A controversial Perthshire windfarm plan, which developers say could deliver a £1 million boost to the local economy, faces being thrown out by councillors.
The proposed Binn Eco Park at Glenfarg would create about 100 jobs and provide enough energy to power nearly 4,500 homes, according to project leaders Element Power.
However, the four-turbine bid has divided the local area with objectors arguing it could have a potential impact on public health, create a noise nuisance and would be detrimental to the environment.
Supporters say the site is suitable and the masts could have welcome economic benefits to the community.
Perth and Kinross Council planners said they have received more than 140 letters and e-mails about the plan, with 66 in support and 77 calling for the scheme to be scrapped.
Next week, members of the local authority’s development management committee will be urged to reject the proposals.
In a report to members, development quality manager Nick Brian said that although the plan would bring benefits, Element Power’s bid does not comply with policy. He said: “The applicant proposes to provide community benefit over the operational lifetime of the development. It is considered that the principle of renewable energy production is acceptable within the vicinity of the eco park and is an important factor in the future operation and development of the park.
“However, it is considered that the scale and design of the proposals as submitted is unacceptable and will have a significantly adverse impact on the landscape character and visual amenity of the wider area.”
