A hospital porter has been jailed after sexually assaulting an 84-year-old woman as he wheeled her for an X-ray at Perth Royal Infirmary.
Albert Baker attacked the pensioner in October while she was preparing for a hip replacement operation at the hospital, Perth Sheriff Court was told.
The 67-year-old, of Brands Brae, Perth, also twice sexually assaulted the same woman as he visited her on separate occasions at her home.
Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson said the woman, who “did not keep particularly good health”, was an in-patient at Perth Royal awaiting an operation on her hip.
He said: “She was admitted to Perth Royal Infirmary with a view to having a hip replacement operation. It was not possible to carry that out straight away, so she was admitted as an in-patient.
“As it turned out the accused was working as a hospital porter there at that time. On one occasion he had been given the task of wheeling her on a trolley to the X-ray department.
“As he wheeled her along the hospital corridor he touched her breast on top of her clothing. On two occasions he visited her at home and touched her breast on top of her clothing.”
Baker pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his victim while wheeling her on a trolley on or about October 2.
He also admitted sexually assaulting the same woman at an address in Perth on two occasions between June 2013 and November 2014.
Baker was medically assessed by a doctor at psychiatric hospital Murray Royal ahead of sentencing.
Sheriff William Wood sentenced Baker to 163 days in prison and placed him on the sex offenders register for seven years.
A spokesman for NHS Tayside said: “This person is no longer employed by NHS Tayside.”
