MSP welcomes £1.6m project to cut flood misery in Milnathort
ByGraham Gibson
Almost a decade after severe flooding led to dozens of Kinross-shire residents being evacuated from their homes, work is to start on a £1.6 million project to cut future risks.
Scottish Water will start an upgrade of the sewer network in Milnathort.
The project, which will result in local road closures, has been described as “a welcome step forward” by Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Liz Smith.
However, she said further investment will be required if local homes and businesses are to be offered full protection.
Scottish Water project manager Andy Ducat said the work would “help prevent long-term… flooding issues” in Milnathort.
The village was badly affected by flooding in December 2006 when the River Queich burst its banks.
Stricken residents in around 30 homes had to be evacuated as flood water reached up to two feet deep.
The first phase of the Scottish Water upgrade in New Road and South Street is expected to take four to six weeks.
