Driver caught at more than five times drink-drive limit on A9
ByThe Courier Reporter
A motorist drove on one of Scotland’s busiest roads while more than five times the legal drink-drive limit.
Martin McLaughlin had been drinking the previous evening before being spotted driving erratically on the A9. Police apprehended him in a lay-by.
Sheriff Jack Brown described the idea of being so intoxicated the day after a drinking session as “a frightening proposition”.
At Perth Sheriff Court McLaughlin, 36, admitted having 119 mics of alcohol in his system on the A9, near Bankfoot, on August 2. The legal limit is 22 mics.
Sheriff Brown deferred sentence for reports and banned McLaughlin, of Thornwood Avenue, Glasgow, from the roads in the interim.
