Highly radioactive material has been unearthed by construction crews at a Perthshire beauty spot.
Traces of radium were discovered during multi-million-pound flood prevention work at Almondbank.
The contaminated cockpit dials are believed to have come from old aircraft at a former Ministry of Defence site at the river’s edge.
More of the substance is likely to be dug up during the next phase of work, Perth and Kinross Council said.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has now demanded the council carry out a survey of the site and has called for permits to be put in place to clear it of the radiactive contamination.
Councillors have stressed all health and safety procedures have been taken to ensure there is no risk to public health.
