PIRC investigating man’s injury during police chase in Perth

Police in Perth face a formal investigation after a man was injured during an incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 20-year-old suffered serious injuries after running into a window on the city’s Atholl Street during a police chase.
Witnesses reported seeing a large amount of blood on the pavement in the hours after the incident.
The unnamed man had been detained by police on suspicion of assault but managed to escape. He is understood to have slipped and hit his head on the lintel of a nearby window.
It is understood that the incident was captured on CCTV.
The man is now recovering in hospital and the case has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).
A PIRC spokesman said: “Police Scotland has referred the circumstances of the serious injury of a 20-year-old man in Perth on August 9 2015 to the Police and Investigations and Review Commissioner.
“We are currently in the process of assessing whether there is a requirement to investigate the matter.”
