A Letham sports club hopes that by scoring a winner in the Courier’s minibus competition it can expand its reach to children outside Perth.
Letham football club already has around 350 members across 24 teams. This includes six girls teams, a pan- disability section, a Saturday morning soccer school for P1-P3 children and a coached session on a Tuesday afternoon for P4-P7.
The club does not currently have a minibus, having previously had access to one through Scottish women’s football that is no longer available.
Club secretary Jon Kidd said: “Having a minibus would have a massive impact on the club. We would be able to provide transport to and from games, training and our after school sessions to a far greater number of members, as well as being able to reach new members.
“We would also be able to massively reduce the carbon footprint of the club as we currently need four or five cars to take a team to a game. A minibus would change that.”For more on our competition and information on how to enter, click hereThe club has three teams playing in the Dundee leagues, as well as six girls’ teams whose games are played regionally, and pan-disability and girls’ under-9s sides who play in festivals across the country.
Mr Kidd added: “We would be able to provide transport for children in small schools or areas outwith Perth to come to our after school activities.
“Many of them are unable to come to us to participate in sport after school due to location and the frequency of transport.
“Equally activities such as ours are not often run in these areas due to a lack of participants. Being able to bring the children to and from the activity would ensure that they are not disadvantaged.”
