‘Lunacy’ of man who attacked and spat on girlfriend
ByThe Courier Reporter
A man attacked his girlfriend with an orange before butting a passer-by who came to her aid.
Martin Wood’s actions were condemned as “sheer lunacy” at Perth Sheriff Court.
Wood, 44, admitted the butting attack, as well as throwing the orange, spitting and striking the woman on the face.
He also admitted failing to provide breath samples and obstructing police officers by lashing out during the incident in Perthshire on December 27.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said “all rational thought had deserted” Wood, who now lives in Dundee, and sentenced him to 275 hours’ unpaid work, 12 months’ supervision and an 18-month driving ban.
He was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation.
