The Scottish Government has given the green light to plans to create a £7.5 million centre for young people with mental health problems in Dundee.
The centre will treat children from across the North East of Scotland and is being developed by NHS Tayside in partnership with NHS Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland.
It was one of seven health projects the Scottish Government has approved.
The North of Scotland Regional Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service project will be created on the site of the existing Young People’s Unit at Dudhope Terrace.
It will include a 12-bed inpatient unit with educational facilities and family accommodation.
Other projects approved include three new health centres costing a combined £45.7m, a Health Campus Project in Inverurie and a replacement for St Brendan’s Hospital in the Western Isles.
Health Secretary Alex Neil said: “Having the right health facilities and services in the right place, is important to patients across Scotland, and that is why I am delighted that such a wide range of projects have taken a significant step forward.
“By developing modern community health facilities for our rural communities we will ensure that patients the length and breadth of the country can be treated in the best possible surroundings.”
