A heartbroken family has launched a desperate search for their pet Jack Russell after he was swept away by rapids at a Perthshire beauty spot.
Four-year-old Ronnie slipped into the water at the Falls of Dochart, on the edge of Killin, on Easter Sunday.
Devastated owners Stuart and Catrina Amos yesterday issued an appeal for help to find their pet after an extensive search of the area proved fruitless.
Their daughter Laura said the family has been left distraught but has not given up hope that Ronnie may have survived the fall.
The accident happened at around 2pm. “Ronnie was on holiday in the area when he lost his footing at the top of the falls and, sadly, got swept downstream by the rapids,” she said.
“My parents saw him go under the water but did not see him surface again when the water became calmer, nearer the bridge.”
She said: “His family are absolutely devastated at what has happened. They have been searching non-stop since Sunday for Ronnie but, sadly, he has still not been found.
“He is quite a strong wee dog, so they are hoping he has been able to get out of the water further downstream.”
Miss Amos, from Livingston, West Lothian, added: “Ronnie is a very much-loved member of the family who is being missed by all, especially his sister who is at a loss without him.”
The Amos family issued an appeal on social media that has been shared hundreds of times.
They are appealing for residents and visitors to keep an eye out for Ronnie, who was not wearing a collar when he went missing. The Jack Russell has been neutered but is not chipped.
The Falls of Dochart is part of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The river flows around the islands of Inchbuie, known as the traditional and ancient burial place of Clan Macnab.
The site is a major tourist attraction and was described by ex-Monty Python star Michael Palin as one of his favourite places on Earth.
Ronnie’s owners have asked anyone with information to call police on 101 and quote reference number 2033.
