Man’s anger after workers take five hours to clear now from road at Glenshee

A Perthshire man has slammed his local council after claiming workers took nearly five hours to clear a road regarded as being vital to hundreds of skiers and local businesses.
Greg Jones, 45, contacted The Courier to claim he was one of “hundreds” of frustrated snow enthusiasts who had to wait until around 10.45am on Saturday for the snow gates on the A93 at the Spittal of Glenshee to open.
“The council knew it was going to snow on Saturday, so why didn’t they have people out from 6am?” he said.
A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council stated they had a snow plough out from 5.30am on Saturday, but added they encountered difficulties due to the bad conditions.
“Drifting snow meant it was necessary to have the snow cutter go through after the plough before the road was actually safe to open,” he said.
“There was snow across most of Perth and Kinross on Saturday morning, which meant our resources were needed to treat all priority routes.”
