Maplins is planning a move into the former Dreams store.
An electronics firm has made a bid to set up shop in Perth.
Maplin is the latest firm to express an interest in a major project to breathe new life into St Catherine’s Retail Park.
Although further details have still to be unveiled, an application has been lodged with Perth and Kinross Council’s planning department.
It shows how the unit formerly occupied by Dreams could be transformed into a local base for Maplin, which sells a range of electrical and electronic equipment.
A spokesman confirmed that steps were being taken to launch a store in the Fair City, saying: “An application has indeed been submitted to the council.
“Many local shoppers have been asking for Maplin to come to Perth for some time and we’re really excited about the prospect of coming to the town.
“However, we aren’t in a position to confirm any further details at this time.”
Work is ongoing to upgrade the dated buildings within the retail park, which was built in the 1980s, and it is hoped that more high-profile businesses will be attracted to Perth.
