A couple had to be rescued from their flood-hit farm by helicopter as storm chaos continued across Perthshire on Monday.
Charlie and Kate Walker were whisked to safety after their home near Alyth was cut off by rising river levels.
The pair, who are in their sixties, had been on standby for evacuation forseveral days but declined help untilMonday morning when they woke to find their Boglea Farm propertysurrounded by water.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene at lunchtime and rescuers took the decision to call in a helicopter from HM Coastguard’s Inverness SAR base to get them to safety.
Daughter-in-law Kate Davidson said: “They didn’t want to leave, but they were really left with no choice.
“The fire service decided that they could not reach them by boat because they weren’t sure if there was anything hazardous under the surface of the water.
“Also, my father-in-law is in a wheelchair, so it will be easier to get him out with a helicopter.”
She said: “They were well prepared for this and had contacted Sepathemselves a few days ago to check what to do if the water got too high.”
She said: “They will be staying with friends until they can go back.Although it has been a bit of an ordeal, they are in good spirits. The emergency teams have been absolutely fantastic.”
The couple’s two dogs have also been taken from the property.
Ms Davidson said although the farmhouse was not flooded, the water had come right up to the walls.
