A businessman who smashed a pedestrian’s head so hard against a van that it left a dent has been fined £1,300.
Michael Duncan stormed out of his vehicle to confront Christopher Derrick after being forced to slow down to let him and a girl cross the road.
Gardening company owner Duncan, 38, grabbed Mr Derrick, 23, and battered his head against a parked van before pushing him to the ground. He then slapped a 16-year-old girl in the face when she intervened to try to help Mr Derrick.
Duncan, of Collinson View, Perth, was also ordered to pay £400 compensation to Mr Derrick after he admitted two charges of assault at Perth Sheriff Court.
He admitted repeatedly punching Mr Derrick on the head and injuring him by striking his head repeatedly against a van before pushing him to the ground.
He also admitted assaulting the girl, who cannot be named, by slapping her face during the incident in Barossa Place, Perth, on August 22 this year.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told the court: “There was an argument and Mr Derrick said that as a pedestrian he had the right of way. The accused began to walk off and Mr Derrick said he was going to call the police.
“On hearing that, the accused turned back, walked up to the complainer and began to punch him on the face repeatedly. The girl intervened and the accused assaulted her.
“He then turned back and grabbed Mr Derrick and struck his head against a van at the side of the road.”
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “There is absolutely no excuse for this behaviour whatsoever.”
