Restrictions in place after part of Perth building collapses
ByThe Courier Reporter
Part of a Perth street remains closed following a building collapse.
South Methven Street reopened to vehicles at around 5.40pm on Thursday but the pavement in front of the former Clachan bar and the Quality Caf remains cordoned off.
The caf was evacuated shortly after 3pm after three storeys of masonry at the rear of the building came crashing down.
The incident left questions over the building’s stability and police ordered an immediate road closure for the safety of the public.
Emergency services were alerted at 3.10pm and the road was closed off between High Street and Mill Street.
Traffic was diverted along Mill Street and the road remained closed while the building was assessed by experts from Perth and Kinross Council.
