Major developments will add 400 houses around Auchterarder

Councillors have given the go-ahead for Auchterarder to expand by more than 400 houses.

Members on the development management committee on Wednesday approved plans for 147 new homes at Castlemains Farm the first phase of a much larger project by Muir Homes.

It includes 16 affordable houses, associated infrastructure, open space and a full-size football pitch at the northern edge of the town.

Councillors approved it with the proviso that the provision of more cycleways is considered.

They also passed an application by Stewart Milne Homes for 261 houses at nearby Kirkton.

The Kirkton site will be accessed by new roundabouts off Hunter Street and The Feus.

It will include play areas and open space, as well as easy pedestrian access to the town centre.
