Police have moved have moved to scotch rumours that the body of a missing American tourist was found at the weekend.
Several posts were made online on Sunday evening and Monday morning suggesting that the three-week search for Susan McLean had come to a tragic end.
However, Police Scotland said there was no basis in fact for the reports.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “At this point in time Susan McLean has not been found.”
Susan, of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, was last seen leaving the Moness resort in Aberfeldy on May 17. She was captured on CCTV at 7.45pm.
Police are investigating a possible sighting of Susan after a woman was reported walking southwards on the A826 out of Aberfeldy at around 8pm that evening.
Mrs McLean was visiting Scotland as part of a two-week holiday with husband Donald and her two sons, Donald and James.
It comes after her family consulted a psychic in a bid to solve the mystery of her disappearance.
In an online post, her sister-in-law Caroline revealed they had been using any method possible to try to find her.
She wrote: “A psychic I consulted said the words ‘alma’ and ‘croft or craft’, letters P-K-N, and a place with stacked stones next to a drop off is where she was last viewed.”
On Friday divers were searching an area of water behind the Dewar’s Distillery in Aberfeldy. Previously, they have searched areas including the Birks of Aberfeldy and the local golf course.
At the time of her disappearance, Susan was wearing a black and grey waterproof jacket, beige khaki trousers and white trainers.
She is described as being 5ft 8in, of medium build, with short fair hair and green eyes and has an American accent.
Caroline and the family are now banking on the support of residents and hope the psychic’s description may help. “It’s crazy but maybe that description means more to the locals,” she wrote in her post.
