Dozens of extra police had to be drafted in to cope with traffic chaos at T in the Park, it has emerged.
Perth and Kinross Council’s probe into the event reveals critical changes to the approved traffic management plan were made at a late stage by DF Concerts.
Environment boss Barbara Renton said: “These consisted of the complete removal of a road over an area of third party private land to accommodate car traffic and a one-way system along Drumness Farm being reversed later in the day to assist existing traffic flows.
“These changes impacted on traffic accessing evening pick-up and drop-off (PUDO) locations.”
She added: “Although the changes had been discussed by the traffic management planning group, it was so close to the event it was not possible to fully assess the traffic modelling implications in advance of the event starting.”
Her report notes that the worst problems came on Friday evening.
“The traffic management arrangements failed, principally due to the number of pedestrians on the surrounding roads.”
Walkers caused vehicles to grind to a halt. Problems were further compounded by those who had arrived to pick up festival-goers getting caught in the snarl-up.
Many left their vehicles and walked in the hope of bumping into the people they were looking for.
Police Scotland called in 30 more officers on Sunday night. DF Concerts agreed to pay for the extra policing.
