Family lead colourful tributes at funeral of schoolboy Kairon McKay

Purple-clad mourners gathered at Perth Crematorium this afternoon to pay tribute to a “one-of-a-kind” schoolboy.
Kairon McKay was tragically killed on October 23 when he was struck by a car on the A90 while out playing with two older friends.
As had been requested by the family, those attending his funeral wore the nine-year-old’s favourite colour and a group of skateboarders followed his hearse.
His purple coffin was topped with flowers of the same hue and he was accompanied by the skateboard which was intended to be his 10th birthday present.
His grandmother Moira told the congregation: “He was a little fire-cracker never a dull moment.”
She spoke of Kairon’s love for his grandfather, Hector, and how they liked to go fishing and play chess together.
At the end of the service which The Courier was invited to attend Kairon’s mum Laura released a purple heart-shaped balloon bearing his name.
