‘Appalling’ theft of defibrillator puts lives at risk
ByRichard Burdge
Police are hunting thieves who stole a vital piece of life-saving equipment from a Highland Perthshire community.
The people of Blair Atholl were shocked by the theft of their public access defibrillator (PAD) from its cabinet outside the village hall.
The life-saving devices have been installed in towns and villages across Britain to provide immediate first aid to heart attack victims.
The Blair Atholl PAD had been in place for over a year and was donated by the Friends of Pitlochry Hospital.
Its theft means there is no PAD available in the busy 30-mile A9 corridor between Killiecrankie and Dalwhinnie, and a replacement will around £1500.
Community council chairman Donald Isles said: “I find it appalling that someone should take such an important item of emergency equipment. It could save a life perhaps yours.”
Police Scotland are investigating the theft and anyone with information should contact them on 101.
