A motorist was seriously injured in a head-on smash on the edge of Perth.
The two-car accident happened on the A9 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The driver of one vehicle, which burst into flames following the collision, was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Two people in the other vehicle were said to have suffered minor injuries.
The accident happened at Redgorton, about a mile north of Inveralmond, at around 12.30am.
All three people were out of their cars before emergency services arrived on the scene. The road was closed for five hours while collision investigators tried to establish what went wrong.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to a two-vehicle traffic incident, with a casualty taken to hospital.
“We received the call just before 12.30am.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman added: “We attended a road traffic collision after midnight on the A9 north of Perth.
“Three casualties were released before our arrival.
“Two cars were involved and one of them was on fire.
“We got the call at 12.27am and finished at 1.38am, when the casualty was en route to hospital.”
At 10am, emergency crews were called to a second crash on the A9 at Newtonmore in the Highlands.
A car with two people inside left the road and dropped down an embankment after a collision with a lorry.
One person, believed to be one of the car’s occupants, suffered minor injuries while the driver of the lorry was described as unhurt.
