Magnus Linklater is new chairman of Horsecross Arts

After a week of turmoil in which it was revealed that Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall were facing a funding crisis, Magnus Linklater has been appointed chairman of the board of Horsecross Arts.

The former chairman of the Scottish Arts Council will steer the next stage of the organisation’s development following the resignations of the previous chairman and board members.

They departed after it was revealed a funding black hole of £500,000 will require to be plugged.

Mr Linklater has been a major presence in Scottish cultural life for many years.

In addition to his journalism and writing career, during which he edited The Scotsman and the Scottish edition of The Times, he chaired the Scottish Arts Council from 1996-2001.

He is currently chairman of the Little Sparta Trust, and president of the Saltire Society.

He was awarded a CBE for services to the arts in the 2013 New Year Honours.

Councillor Ian Miller, leader of the council, said: “As the major funder of Horsecross Arts and owner of Perth Theatre, the council is delighted that Magnus has come on

board.”
