Andrew Fairlie’s restaurant at Gleneagles has achieved double success after being recognised by two prestigious bodies.
The Michelin-starred chef’s business was knocked off the top spot in the Sunday Times Food List but came fifth in TripAdvisor’s 2013 Travellers’ Choice Restaurants awards.
Fairlie’s Gleneagles restaurant won last year’s Food List award, which is based on 80,000 reviews from 9,000 consumers 2,000 of which are Sunday Times readers.
This year’s Food List winner is Gidleigh Park, the restaurant which was No 1 in 2010.
The TripAdisor’s awards honour travellers’ favourite fine dining establishments worldwide.
Another Scottish restaurant, Castle Terrace in Edinburgh, came in at No 8.
Mr Fairlie’s establishment beat the likes of La Gavroche in London, which is run by Michelin two-starred chef Michel Roux Jr, and Notting Hill’s the Ledbury, which also holds two Michelin stars.
TripAdvisor spokesman James Kay said: “This year’s list of Travellers’ Choice Restaurants award winners proves just how diverse fine dining experiences have become across the UK. Whether you’re as far north as Auchterarder and Edinburgh or as far south as Jersey, you’ll be able to find a Travellers’ Choice winner close by.”
Mr Fairlie revealed at the weekend that he suffers up to 20 epileptic seizures a day due to his battle with a brain tumour.
