Complaints about commuters using a residential Perth street for parking has led to the council considering introducing restrictions.
It has been suggested that, due to visitor numbers having increased, some motorists who leave their vehicles in Millburn Court and Windsor Terrace in Craigie have been parking beside required access to properties, making it “extremely dangerous”.
The community has requested the introduction of waiting restrictions to “alleviate indiscriminate parking” by some drivers.
If passed by Perth and Kinross Council’s enterprise and infrastructure committee on Wednesday, the varied traffic management order would introduce a no-waiting policy at the junction of Millburn Court and Windsor Terrace.
In a report written by Barbara Renton, director of environment with Perth and Kinross Council, she claims the Windsor Terrace area has “for a number of years” been seen by commuters as an ideal place to park without having to pay for all-day parking.
“Some of the residents from Millburn Court have raised concerns that, as the visitors numbers have increased, drivers are now guilty of parking very close to, or even on, the access, making it extremely dangerous,” her report states.
“The streets also serve as a parking area for visitors using the South Inch for recreational use, such as dog walkers, runners, cyclists and parents taking their children for walks around the South Inch.
“The nearby Glenearn Community Campus also attracts visitors who often choose to park at this location.”
Ms Renton said all of the residents from Millburn Court are in favour of parking restrictions. The proposal also has the backing of local elected councillors and Police Scotland.
In addition, the council is also looking to introduce a section of no daytime waiting restrictions on Jeanfield Road, Perth, for a similar reason.
Perth and Kinross Council’s enterprise and infrastructure committee approved this restriction on two sections of Jeanfield Road in November last year.
However, commuters are said to be parking on a section of the road opposite its junction with Rose Crescent.
In the same report by Ms Renton, she says: “This change in parking habits is causing serious issues for large vehicles as the junction is being reduced to single-file traffic.
“It is proposed to vary the traffic management order to include a 10am to 4pm waiting restriction on this area of Jeanfield Road.”
Ms Renton adds that if any objections are raised to the two proposals, these will be reported to the committee with appropriate recommendations.
