MSP says shortage that left one out-of-hours GP for Perthshire and Dundee is ‘deeply disturbing’
ByPaul Reoch
A politician has described the revelation that only one GP was left to cover the whole of Perthshire and Dundee as “deeply disturbing.”
Liz Smith, who represents Mid-Scotland and Fife, was reacting to the shocking discovery that emerged from a report issued by NHS Tayside.
The document states that the health body took the decision to temporarily have one out-of-hours hub for the region at Dundee’s Kings Cross Health Centre from June 26.
In the report, NHS Tayside has admitted the move was in reaction to what had become “clearly an impossible scenario with risks to patients and clinicians alike.”
Ms Smith claimed this decision could have presented a risk to patient care.
“This is clearly deeply disturbing,” she told The Courier.
“Patients and their families will rightly be very concerned that medical care is being compromised as a result of NHS Tayside’s decision to put more GP out-of-hours service to Dundee.”
