ByRichard Burdge
Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall has been unveiled as the headliner of this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts.
This is a big year for the 10-day festival in May as it is celebrating its 45th birthday.
Founded in 1972 the Perth event is regarded as one of the highlights in the cultural calendar and is one of Scotland’s oldest continuously running arts festivals.
Joining KT Tunstall in the programme is festival favourite Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra with special guests Pauline Black and Arthur “Gaps” Hendrickson from The Selecter, Mercury Music Prize nominees The Unthanks, Manran, Dundee band Sinderins and Radio 4 favourites Alex Horne and The Horne Section.
Classical music, as always, plays a big part in the event with BBC Proms regulars The John Wilson Orchestra opening the festival with a Broadway programme and The Hall Orchestra closing the event with Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.
English Touring Opera will stage a new full production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
The festival runs from May 19 to 29. More information is available at www.perthfestival.co.uk.
