A drink-driver who led police on a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Aberfeldy has been banned from the road for four years.
Police pulled over Daniel Riley after reports that he had got behind the wheel while over the legal alcohol limit. But when officers parked in position behind his Audi Quattro, the 23-year-old accelerated off.
Riley appeared at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday and admitted driving carelessly at excessive speeds through the town, before colliding with a pavement.
He also pleaded guilty to driving while more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
Fiscal depute Stuart Richardson said Riley was pulled over as he drove through Aberfeldy’s Dunkeld Street in the early hours of November 9, last year.
He said Riley drove through two red lights while being followed by police who had activated their blue flashing lights.
Labourer Riley drove through Moness Terrace, Atholl Terrace, Old Crieff Road, Bank Street and Taybridge Road before coming to a sudden halt.
As well as disqualifying him for four years, Sheriff Michael Fletcher fined Riley £400 and ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
He said that Riley, whose address was listed as Dunkeld Street, Aberfeldy, had a similar conviction from 2009.
“You obviously have a problem with drinking and driving,” he said.
