A major player in Perthshire’s tourist industry has taken a council caravan and camping park under its wing.
Perth and Kinross Council officially announced this week that Moness Resort has taken over the lease for the management of the facility on the outskirts of Aberfeldy.
The council opened up a leasing opportunity to interested parties last year, saying it would allow for further improvements to the site’s amenities.
Moness Resort is the largest employer in Aberfeldy and attracts more than 20,000 visitors each year to the area. The hope is that the new link-up will boost visitor numbers further.
The transfer of management of the Aberfeldy caravan and camping park to Moness Resort allows for further site improvements to modernise the facilities.
Users of the park will also be able to access facilities at Moness Resort, which offers a swimming pool, a games hall, a putting green, a cycle hire, an on-site restaurant and a bar.
“This opportunity secures the future of the caravan park and will provide necessary investment and improvements to the facility to the benefit of residents of the park and to Aberfeldy as a whole,” said convener of the council’s environment committee Alan Grant.
John McKenzie, managing director of the Moness Group, said: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity of operating Aberfeldy caravan site.
“We view this as simply an extension of the first-class hospitality operation which we have offered at Moness for many years.”
As part of the transfer of the site, the council will be upgrading the electrical supply at the camp site on the banks of the Tay.
Moness Resort has agreed to undertake an upgrade of the electrical distribution and metering system to the individual pitches and undertake landscaping on site.
