A man has died following a tractor crash at Rait in Perthshire.
The 64-year-old driver waspronounced dead at the scene, near the Inchmichael junction on the A90.
Next of kin have been informed and his details will not be released until he has been formally identified.
The vehicle, along with a trailer, came to rest in a ditch at the side of the road near a bend.
Several worried locals were at the scene concerned that their loved ones were involved but were reassured by officers. The area is sparsely populated, with a number of farms nearby.
Crash investigation teams attended to carry out inquiries into the full set ofcircumstances of the incident.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 1.20pm yesterday. Fire crews attended at the request of police after an initial report that the driver was trapped within the vehicle.
Appliances from Dundee and Perth raced to the location but it’s understood that they were not required initially. They returned to the scene an hour after leaving.
A spokesman said: “Police Scotland asked us to attend to make the scene safe.”
The Scottish Ambulance service was also in attendance but left shortlyafterwards.
The road was closed for several hours as a result of the incident to allowinvestigations to take place and the recovery of the tractor and trailer.
Traffic was diverted via the Kinnaird road.
Crash scene specialists had to work under the glare of floodlights as thedaylight faded.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Emergency services attended a serious road traffic incident at 1.20pm today, involving a tractor at Rait near the Inchmichael junction.
“Tragically, the 64-year-old tractor driver was declared dead at the scene.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer.”
