A collie had a lucky escape after plunging 100ft into a Perthshire ravine.
The dog had been out for a walk with her owners near Bridge of Tilt on Wednesday when she suddenly disappeared shortly before 2pm.
The much-loved pet was discovered two hours later, clinging to a ledge 30ft above the River Tilt.
Fire crews were scrambled to the scene, where a specialist rope rescue team abseiled down to reach the dog.
After a three-hour rescue operation, undertaken in darkness, theseven-year-old animal, named Wag, was brought back to the top of the cliff.
Despite being tired, cold and muddy, Wag managed to wag her tail as she was reunited with her relieved owners.
Last night the couple, who do not want to be identified, thankedfirefighters for their work.
They said: “We are very grateful and wish to thank all services who did abrilliant job, in extremely difficult and testing circumstances, rescuing our dog, Wag.
“We can’t thank them all enough for their support, understanding andprofessionalism shown to us tonight.”
Eight appliances, including three from Dundee and three from Perth, attended at around 4pm.
Group manager Bruce Farquharson, of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said the rescue had proved challenging.
He said: “It’s quite a complex rescue with lots of factors to take into account, So the teams have done very well.”
