The death of a prisoner at Castle Huntly could not have been prevented, a sheriff has ruled.
John Glancy died at the open prison on January 5. He was jailed for six years in August 2012 for assault and robbery.
At Perth Sheriff Court, Sheriff Christopher Shead heard that Mr Glancy had collapsed in the prison grounds having earlier complained of chest pains. Staff performed CPR on the prisoner but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was atherosclerotic coronary heart disease.
After hearing all the evidence, Sheriff Shead concluded there were “no reasonable precautions whereby the death might have been avoided”.
