Scone Palace, the crowning place of kings, has been transformed into a wonderland of light and sound.
To mark its 900-year heritage, Scone Palace hosted an evening of festivities in time for the most romantic day of the year.
Although there were plenty of lovebirds in attendance on Valentine’s Night, the star of the show was actually an enormous peacock.
Although they are usually seen roaming around the palace estate, one of the birds took up a rather surprising perch as part of the inaugural Enlighten event.
A huge colourful image of a peacock was projected on to the palace during an awe-inspiring light show.
Meanwhile, the Moot Hill the place of coronation previously known as Caislean Credi, or Hill of Credulity retained its reputation as a place to marvel when it was turned into a cinema screen for the evening.Photo gallery: Scone Palace in lightsOrganiser GM Events also used the wonder of technology to broadcast echoes of the past at the Old Scone junction, as well as making the trees talk.
The woods within the estate played a key role in the celebrations and were illuminated to create a trail through the grounds.
Supported by EventScotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Forestry Commission Scotland, Enlighten aimed to boost the number of off-peak visitors to the area.
Gerry Muldoon, of GM Events, said: “We have people coming from all over the UK for what was a fantastic event and one-off opportunity to see the Pinetum, the palace itself, Moot Hill and the rest of the grounds in a spectacular light and soundscape produced by one of the country’s top light and sound organisations.
“In addition to the economic benefit, accommodation providers have reported a surge in bookings over the two days, including quite a number of couples who chose to celebrate Valentine’s Day somewhat differently this year.”
He is confident the event, which continues on Saturday evening, will turn into a regular fixture at Scone Palace.
