Ms McLaren said: “We are all very proud to have reached the national finals for the fifth time.
“It is important to us and, of course, our customers that we run a friendly and safe pub, and it is nice to have this recognised.
“Our customers are an extension of the family and it really is not any trouble to run the odd errand for them or give them a call if we have not seen them for a few days. We love having them in the pub, particularly some of our older and retired customers, who value the company.”
Clive Chesser, business unit director for Greene King Pub Partners, owner of The Old Ship Inn, said: “Tina runs The Old Ship with a great deal of care and passion and her positive role in the community is very inspiring. I wish the whole team the very best of luck at the final.”
