A boy is in a critical condition in hospital after a freak accident at his great-grandparents’ home in Perth
The four-year-old is believed to have pulled a large mirror down on top of himself while playing at the elderlycouple’s house.
Emergency services were called to the Nimmo Avenue property on Tuesday evening.
The youngster, who has not been named, was taken by ambulance tothe Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.
His great-grandparents, Roger and Maureen McHarg, are being comforted by friends and relatives.
The boy’s parents were said to be keeping a vigil at their son’s bedside in hospital.
The family were too upset to speak.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that officers attended at an address in Nimmo Avenue, Perth, at about 4.50pm on Tuesday following a report of an injured child.
“The four-year-old boy is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.”
She added: “There are no apparent suspicious circumstances at this time.
“Inquiries into the incident are on-going and officers are communicating closely with the family.”
Neighbours said the street filled with blue lights when police and ambulance crews arrived on the scene.
One local said: “I looked out and saw a couple of ambulances and a few police cars.
“They were parked outside Roger and Maureen’s address.
“I know that they are a bit older and my first thought was that something had happened to one of them.
“When we heard it was the wee boy we were just shocked. It looked very serious but I hope he’s going to be OK.”
Local councillor Callum Gillies said: “This is really sad. All we can do is keep praying for this wee boy and hope that he makes a good recovery. I know a lot of people will be thinking about him.”An NHS Lothian spokeswoman declined to comment.
