A long-awaited upgrade of a busy Perth car park has been described as a small step towards the 21st Century.
City councillor Peter Barrett has welcomed the introduction of credit and debit card payments at South Inch.
“This finally provides the sort of payment options customers expect in this day and age,” he said. “It means that customers don’t have to restrict their visits to Perth to the amount of change they’ve put in the meter or to the amount of cash in their wallet. Hopefully, this will benefit our city centre shops and local businesses.”
He added: “This isn’t a giant step forward for mankind, but Perth and Kinross Council does seem to have inched closer to the 21st Century.”
Mr Barrett said that the first fully automatic “pay on foot” set-up was introduced in 1974. “It is a sad indictment upon the council that we have had to wait over 40 years for the first council-operated pay on foot car park,” he said.
