The funeral of a nine-year old boy killed in an accident on the A90 by Longforgan will take place in Perth on Thursday.
The family of Kairon McKay has issued an open invitation for the funeral at Perth Crematorium at 3pm.
Kairon died on October 23 after being struck by a car on the A90 while out playing with two older friends around 9.20pm.
He was bending down to tie his shoelace when he was struck by the vehicle.
He and his mother Laura had been staying overnight with a friend in Inchture.
Now Kairon’s family are hoping people will help them celebrate Kairon’s life at Perth on Thursday.
Kairon’s grandfather Hector Mackay said: “There is also going to be a collection for anybody to donate to multiple sclerosis charities as I am disabled with it.”
Laura had uploaded a photo of Kairon with a new skateboard to Facebook on the day of his death.
He was building the skateboard with his grandfather and the board will be buried with the youngster.
Kairon also shared a love of fly-fishing with his grandfather, and Hector has chosen a memorial stone with an angler on it for him.
Both it and Kairon’s beloved toy frog will both rest by his coffin during the funeral service.
Laura has revealed how she falls asleep cuddling Kairon’s pyjamas and has urged mourners to wear bright colours to the funeral and even skate if they want to.
She posted on social media: “At Kairon’s celebration of life, there’s no restrictions if you want to skate in front of the hearse and skate him in you can do. It’s a casual thing no morbid colours.”
The 33-year-old support worker from Almondbank has also had to defend herself from internet trolls who said Kairon should not have been out playing so late in the evening.
She said: “Some people made painful comments on Facebook asking why Kairon had been out at night.
“But he was going to his friend’s house along the road. He had left at 8.45pm with strict instructions to be back at 9.30pm. I had no idea they would go off to buy sweets.
“I am so angry that he wandered off but I never want him to know that. You try to give your child a little freedom and the confidence to grow up and learn.”
Laura was so distraught after the accident that it fell to her parents Hector, 64, and Moira, 60, to identify Kairon’s body.Page 1 of today’s Perth edition of The Courier wrongly states the funeral is being held on Wednesday. We can confirm it is on Thursday, and we apologise for the error.
