Parents and carers have turned out in force to support an initiative launched in Perth.
Inspired by the bravery of two grieving parents, mother-of-two Vicki White has spearheaded local efforts to teach basic first aid skills for babies.
Dan and Joanne Thompson lost their daughter Millie over a year ago after she choked while at a Stockport nursery.
In a bid to prevent this happening again, they launched Millie’s Trust to raise awareness of paediatric first aid and raise money to provide funding for free or subsidised courses.
Although the couple are based in Manchester, Ms White, 33, became aware of their tragic tale through social media.
She said: “I was very moved by what they had done.
“As a parent myself, I can’t even begin to imagine how devastated they must be, but to be able to produce something so positive out of such an utter tragedy is completely inspiring and I wanted to contribute something.
“I previously worked in public relations and events so I thought helping to arrange the first series of events in Perth would be a great start.”
Despite being kept busy by her two toddlers, Ms White, of Bridge of Earn, organised a series of fully-subscribed free sessions at McDiarmid Park.
Led by George Carruthers of Glasgow-based J&C First Aid, around 45 parents took part in the inaugural event, dedicating two hours to learning how to help their little ones in an emergency.
She continued: “I’m also hoping to raise some much-needed funds and awareness for this great charity.
“I’m a great believer in pitching in and I think if everyone does their bit, then we can really make a difference.”
Younger generations are also set to take part in the initiative, as a teacher attending the course has offered to help Millie’s Trust extend the training to local schools.
Mrs Thompson praised the efforts being made, saying the charity was “proud” to be working in Scotland and hoped to get more people involved.
