A Perth man who worked for Express newspapers has died at the age of 85.
Robert “Bob” McAdam moved to the Fair City in 1955 after being appointed circulation representative of Perth and Perthshire.
Born in Glasgow in 1928, Mr McAdam was the only child of Grace and Tom, a tea blender. He was educated at Kings Park Secondary School in Glasgow and at 17 joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Seaman.
Latterly serving as a dental assistant, he was based in various locations, including HMS Condor near Arbroath. In October 1953 Mr McAdam joined Express Newspapers based in Albion St, Glasgow.
In 1955 he and his wife Renee relocated to Perth and over the following 35 years Mr McAdam worked as a circulation representative with newspaper wholesalers and retailers.
After retiring from Express Newspapers he missed the routine of work and the interaction with people he often said he missed the “Friday night feeling”.
So in the late 1980s he joined Frews, now Macrae & Dick, where he worked part-time until he was 79. Mr McAdam enjoyed playing golf and was a past member of Craigiehill Golf Club in Perth and the New Club in St Andrews.
He made many good friends throughout his life and enjoyed their company and that of his extended family at frequent social events.
Mr McAdam spent 58 years of his life in Perth and it was here that he and Renee raised their children Lesley and Martin. Mr McAdam died in his sleep on Monday after 10 months of declining health.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12.30pm on Monday at Perth Crematorium, to which all family and friends are invited.
His ashes will be scattered at Cathkin Braes, south of Glasgow, so he can rest overlooking his home city.
