Traffic worries raised over Murray Royal Hospital site development
ByThe Courier Reporter
Councillor Peter Barrett has raised concerns over traffic issues that could arise from development at Murray Royal Hospital.
NHS Tayside has held a public consultation to discuss possible uses for the surplus land and buildings at the Perth hospital.
The health body has suggested future development may take the form of a care home, hotel or leisure facilities.
Councillor Barrett, one of the representatives for Perth City Centre, said the potential impact on traffic continues to “raise concerns” in the community.
“The masterplan needs to come up with something more concrete than merely twiddling with the traffic signal sequencing at Lochie Brae,” he said.
“Traffic calming measures for rat run routes through Gannochy and Kinnoull need to be addressed, along with safer pedestrian routes and crossings and public transport improvements.”
An NHS Tayside spokesperson said the firm it has appointed to act as “master planners to consult on and consider plans for the remaining site and buildings” will “consider all aspects before formulating the master plan for the site.”
