A jilted boyfriend who bombarded his former lover with more than 1,000 voice and text messages has escaped punishment after spending £2,000 on mediation.
Gavin Kippen, 29, spent months sending messages to Kirsty Livingstone after refusing to accept the end of their three year relationship.
But he was admonished after telling the court he had stayed out of trouble since his arrest and had funded the counselling sessions for the ex-couple to attend.
Depute fiscal Sue Ruta told Perth Sheriff Court: “She had been in a relationship with the accused for about three years and it ended in July 2014.
“The complainer wishes to have as little contact with the accused as possible. She received a WhatsApp message asking her to get back with him. She didn’t reply.
“Shortly after, the accused started bombarding her with texts telling her he loved her and effectively making out that he may harm himself.
“There were over 1,000 voicemails and text messages sent to the complainer over the period between 1 July and 7 February.”
Sheriff William Wood said: “Plainly this is a case of unrequited love. I’m sure it was very disappointing for you and I take into account the fact you have previously been of good character and come to court for the first time at 29 years of age.
“You thought there was nothing wrong with what you were doing, but clearly there is a point at which a line is crossed.”
Kippen, East Mill, Stanley Mills, admitted engaging in a course of conduct between 1 July 2014 and 7 February 2015 which caused Miss Livingstone fear and alarm.
